Newborns Vietnam has identified three immediate priorities that will change the life chances of thousands of babies in Da Nang and the surrounding provinces;
• Increasing the number of trained nurses - the nurse baby ratio is critical for newborns survival.
• Support for the first international standard neonatal nurse training in Vietnam, being provided by Canterbury Christ Church University.
• Providing lifesaving equipment, incubators, infant warmers, infusion pumps, resuscitation devices, CPAP machines and some everyday basics like medical hand sanitizer.
How Can You Help? – Cycle a Difference
Take part in the Cycle a Difference sponsored cycle ride, discover Vietnam, enjoy a new cycling challenge and help us build a sustainable solution to the high number of newborn deaths in central Vietnam.
Meet and talk to the nurses who will take part in the training that your ride will fund, meet the doctors and talk about the equipment they need to save more newborns lives. The newborns unit’s mission statement is love and health for our newborns - there is no shortage of love and dedication and there is a huge hunger for knowledge and skills.
Every mile you cycle will change the life chances of thousands of children. Post ride we will keep you up to date with progress, the arrival of equipment, nurses completing the course, number of babies saved every year. A full report of the nurse training programme will be published on the Newborns Vietnam website.
Come back next year for another great ride and maybe onwards to conquer Vietnam and Laos!
